What's in My Makeup Bag?

It was pretty clear that many of you guys wanted some more product reviews so I figured this would be a fun way to give the people what they want!
I’m not into makeup as much as I am with my other products and I tend to keep everything pretty natural. Even though I don’t wear a lot, I still like to have good quality makeup. Most of the drugstore products I’ve tried just don’t work well for me, and I think the good stuff is much better quality and lasts longer anyway. To me you get more bang for your buck when you invest in better products.
Also, I tend to use products differently than what they’re actually intended for. I’ve just found what works best for me over the years and if something is “wrong” I really don’t care.
I’m going to link everything to either Sephora or Ulta in case something stands out to you! So, here we go, my current makeup bag consists of:
I never used to use a primer but once I started using one, I noticed a huge difference. I feel like using a primer acts as a barrier between the skin & makeup so to me it seems like less makeup is getting into my pores…probably not true but idk. This smashbox primer is great. It’s a super basic primer that’s lightweight, goes on smooth, and does the trick to keep makeup in place.
I’ve never been a fan of foundation, so I always tend to go with tinted moisturizers since they’re much lighter. This Laura Mercier one is amazing. It covers just enough and really brightens up your face and gives it a smoother appearance. You can even layer it on if you like more coverage and it won’t get cakey. There are other formulas of this stuff too, I just go with oil-free since I have crazy combination skin.
I know I said I don’t like foundation, but I think I hate liquid concealer more, so I use this stuff instead. I’ve never found a concealer I liked, they all just crease on me and I don’t like the feeling of too much liquid all over my face. I use this loose powder under my eyes and on blemishes and it REALLY does the trick.
It covers problem areas well since technically it is foundation, but it also brightens and lifts my under eyes really nicely too. I just apply it with a small brush and since its foundation one jar lasts a LONG time if you only use it to conceal certain spots. I’ve tried the bare minerals loose concealer which didn’t seem to work as well as this does and I also get the matte one because you never want to highlight a problem area, it just makes it stand out more!
I’m not huge into the whole contouring thing so I kind of just use bronzer to match my skin tone. Honestly, I put it everywhere. I’ve only ever used this one since its matte, I’m not a fan of an overly shimmery face. I’m sure there’s more out there that I could try but this one works well for me and also smells like chocolate which is a fun plus.
Again, I don’t really do the whole contour thing, but I love the blush and highlighter in this palette. The highlighter is the perfect pinky gold and the blush is super natural so if I wear any at all its usually this one. I sometimes even use this highlighter as eyeshadow too.
Since I get oily, I always have a translucent powder in my bag, and just throw it on to get rid of some of the oily spots. I finish my face with this stuff every time I wear makeup. I’ve even had some of my friends try this out and they like it too! I’ve never tried an expensive translucent powder, which I’m sure works better and lasts longer but this works for now.
If you know me, you know I’m very particular about my eyebrows. I won’t touch them myself because I just can’t afford to ruin them with tweezing. I over tweezed them when I was younger, and it was awful. These days I almost always have them tinted since I like them thick and dark, but when I don’t, I lightly fill them in with the Brow Wiz. It’s a super thin pencil and the strokes mimic the look of actual hair which makes your brows look really natural. You might think I’m crazy reading this but my brows are something I will never compromise on.
I always use an eyeshadow primer because it keeps eyeshadow in place and also gives a more matte surface to work with. I have weirdly dark & oily eyelids, so the primer helps get rid of that. This is the one I use right now but have also tried the Too Faced Shadow Insurance and both work the same for me.
Eyeshadow: Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette – I guess they don’t make this one anymore! I linked the newest Naked one instead which seems pretty similar.
Again, I wear eyeshadow every day just because my eyelids look really dark and oily with nothing over them. I’ve always used this Naked Palette and really only use either the matte cream/tan shades, gold shades, or pink/copper shades since they’re really natural and work well with brown eyes.
I don’t really wear eyeliner every day, but when I do its always been this one and always will be. Each time I’ve strayed from it I’ve always gone back. I just can’t do the felt tip liners or the pens, so this thin brush tip works the best for me.
Mascara is one of the only things I won’t buy an expensive version of. I’ve tried SO MANY expensive ones like too faced better than sex, tarte maneater, benefit they’re real, the list goes on. For some reason I’ve always thought the drugstore mascaras worked better for me, but this one in particular I SWEAR by. It gives you both length and volume and never clumps at all. My sister and I have used this one for as long as I can remember and probably always will. I have heard that benefit’s roller lash is the better version of this one since the wand is super similar, so maybe I’ll give that one a try, but I bet I’ll still go back to this one.
I think that’s about it for everything I use when I fully do my makeup! It’s not often, but when I’m going out with my friends or have to dress up nice, I usually do use everything on this list. Normally, I just throw on some light face stuff, eyeshadow, brows, and mascara and go about my day.
I do have some new makeup products coming in the mail which I’m excited to use! When I get those, I’ll probably end up reviewing them as well!
