Happy in 21 is something that I was really looking forward to working on upon entry to the MKT-455 Social Media Campaign course. A few of my friends took the class previously and worked on the Happy in 21 campaign, so I had a brief understanding of what it was and how much fun this project was.
Happy in 21 is student run campaign to spread happiness throughout the SNHU community and the world in general. The idea behind Happy in 21 actually stemmed from a Ted Talk we watched in class. During the Ted Talk, Shawn Achor discussed how to achieve happiness in life. Achor concluded that you must make happiness a daily habit by changing your own thoughts, and since it takes 21 days to make or break a habit, the idea of Happy in 21 was born! Achor also created his own theory that if you do the following for 21 days, it will rewire your thoughts and create a more positive mindset:
1. Journal each day, reflect & be sure to write a few things down that made you happy that day
2. Thank someone once a day
3. Write down 3 positive things about yourself
4. Exercise
5. Meditate
I personally exercise regularly in general, so I definitely want to continue to incorporate some of these other practices into my life to see if it makes a difference. It really isn’t that hard either, it’s just remembering to do it each day that’s critical for me. Based on research, it is proven that these tactics work to increase happiness and improve your overall outlook on life. I mean, who doesn’t want a little extra happiness in their life!?
As for the Happy in 21 campaign my class is working on now, unfortunately most of our plans were cancelled due to online learning for the remainder of the semester. Honestly, when I got the news we weren’t returning to campus, Happy in 21 was one of the first things that crossed my mind. Implementing the plan we came up with as a class was something I was really looking forward to. The events we had scheduled were super unique and exciting so it was hard for me, someone who likes to see a plan executed in full, to cope with the fact we wouldn’t be able to spread happiness how we planned. I was bummed to say the least, this whole situation took away my last few weeks of college and now my happiness!? Only kidding, but still disappointed.
Luckily, we have social media to thank! My classmates and I have been working on some really fun ideas to keep this campaign going on social media and continue to spread happiness. We even thought that now is a great time to promote happiness on social media, given the current situation we are all facing. So if any of this appeals to you, which how could it not its about being happy, be sure to check out @HappyIn21 on Instagram and Twitter, and the Happy in 21 page on Facebook.
Now my first step in achieving happiness in 21 days…thanking someone. Thank you for reading this post and I hope that you’ll join my class and I in the challenge to make the world a happier place!
