If I didn’t spend money on random shit would I even be a normal 22-year-old? Nope! So, I decided to order a Billie razor.
I’m sure many of you have seen the ads on Instagram and whatnot but, if you haven’t let me give you a quick run-down.
The Billie razor is allegedly the holy grail of razors and is supposed to give you the best shave of your life. Here’s what the website says the Billie razor includes:
- Five nickel-free, anti-rust, super sharp blades
- Charcoal infused soap for even the most sensitive of skin
- Magnetic holder to allow water to drain off & avoid your razor sitting in a puddle
- Matte rubber handle that’s super grippy…no more falling razors & praying to god it doesn’t land blade-first on your toes!
To top it all off, all Billie products are clean beauty products, something I’m super into right now. Vegan, paraben-free, sulfate-free, cruelty-free…you name it they’re probably free of it.
The whole starter pack is only $9. No tax, no shipping, nothing…just 9 bucks for a razor and an additional head. It is a subscription, so every 1, 2, or 3 months they’ll send you FOUR new heads in the mail for another $9. I chose the 3-month delivery option, but not having to worry about buying new razor heads…sign me up because honestly, I never remember to buy them.
To me, it sounded a little too good to be true, especially since I pay like $15 for my normal drugstore razor and head refills.
So, I put Billie to the test over a few shaves.
Shave #1
Since I knew Billie was coming in the mail, I decided to let my hair grow out until it arrived. Probably went a little over a week without shaving, so things were getting ugly.
When Billie arrived, I jumped in the shower and started shaving away. I did get a bottle of their shave cream too because why not just blow all of my money for “research purposes.”
My initial thoughts were that it definitely felt different, but I couldn’t exactly pinpoint it yet. As I kept going, I noticed that one stroke was actually clearing all of the hair from my legs. I didn’t have to continuously shave over the same spot before feeling like it was bare, so that was cool! Even when I did shave over the same spot, the razor made that squeaky noise, so I knew there wasn’t anything left to remove.
Still skeptical, I decided to take my old razor and shave one part of my leg with that, and the other with Billie. This is when I decided I knew what I was feeling!
With my old razor, I basically felt that it was just gliding over the surface of my legs like any ole’ razor does. With Billie, I started to notice that it felt like it was getting deeper into my legs and fully removing the hair instead of just cutting off the top part like the old razor. Not sure if that’s the best description, but Billie definitely felt like a smoother, much closer shave for sure. Overall thoughts: my legs are pretty damn smooth and no leftover stubble in sight.
As for the shaving cream, I thought it was okay. It was a creamy consistency instead of the typical foamy stuff, so I thought that was alright. I did think it would be a bit more moisturizing considering its packed with aloe, shea butter, and olive oil, but after I rinsed everything off, I noticed my legs seemed rather dry. I usually shave with conditioner, so maybe I’m just used to having slippery smooth legs after I shave? I’d say if you want to go ahead and try it, but I think your typical shaving cream should be just fine.
24 Hours Later
With my old razor, the next day I usually do get some stubble already poking through but with Billie I noticed that wasn’t the case! For the first time I feel like my legs pretty much feel the exact same as when I shaved them the night before. Also, usually by the next day I get some ingrown hairs and razor burn but everything is SO smooth and there isn’t one bump in sight.
Shave #2
I didn’t let my hair grow all crazy this time around, so this was more of a normal, routine shave. I read a few reviews saying that some women experienced Billie making their hair grow back thinner and slower, but I think I’m too early in to notice yet. Updates to come on that.
This time I decided to test how I really liked the shave cream by shaving one leg with the Billie shave cream and the other with my normal conditioner.
Honestly, I didn’t notice much of a difference in the shave itself. The Billie shave cream I thought wore away or seeped into my skin quicker, so at times I felt like it wasn’t even there to shave over. With the conditioner, it stayed on the whole time like normal and I didn’t notice a difference in the way the razor took to that instead. So, my original opinion stands, I think you’ll be just fine your normal shave cream if you wanted to purchase just the razor.
I also did want to note that this time around I think I was trusting the razor a lot more. The grip hasn’t slipped once, and I feel like it goes over rough edges like knees and ankles SO much better than my old razor. I used to get really worried shaving over my ankles after one horrific experience, but with Billie I’m having no issues at all! I did nic myself once in the back of my ankle, but it’s a sharp blade so it happens.
2 Weeks of Using Billie
Okay so by now I’ve shaved a good amount of times and feel like I’ve formed an opinion on this Billie razor.
Overall, I think the razor is great! I still haven’t noticed my hair growing back thinner or slower like some reviews said but every time I shave it is a super close shave that leaves my legs a lot smoother than normal. I’ve definitely noticed a difference in the amount of razor burn/bumps too. For me, that’s a huge plus considering my skin can be sensitive at times and summer is right around the corner so I don’t have time to deal with unwanted razor burn.
The shave cream I’m still not super impressed with and decided I won’t be purchasing it again after this bottle. It’s not bad, but honestly just not that good. My legs always felt super dry after using it compared to my normal shave gel so to me it’s just not worth it.
Since I’m no razor expert or anything like that, I can’t say for sure if it’s the end all be all razor… but I do think it’s the best one I’ve tried! Quite honestly, my legs have never been smoother after a shave and even in the hours following. Maybe it’s because its built for sensitive skin or because the razors are sharper than the average? I’m not really sure what it is about Billie, but I’m impressed!
I’ll definitely be continuing with my subscription for a while, especially since you’re getting a quality product for a really good price. So, with that said, I’d for sure recommend Billie to anybody looking for a new razor and silky smooth legs for Summer 2020!
Oh, and to top it all off the packaging was super cute...well done Billie marketers!
