Solitude Challenge

The solitude challenge is an exercise where you sit and reflect for 30 minutes with no distractions. After participating myself, I was able to reflect on my life and remind myself of some important values that I haven't pondered lately.

While reflecting, what first came to mind are the current stresses in my life. Whether it be a busy day of lacrosse, looming deadlines in classes, or stresses from life in general, these types of thoughts usually pop into my head when I have time alone. Instead of ignoring these stresses, I gave myself time to accept them and analyze them. Mentally planning how I am going to overcome these stresses helped relieve these anxious thoughts, and turned them into more positive ideas that I could accomplish instead.

During the rest of the reflection I found my thoughts wandering towards my family, friends, and my life. I began to think about the more important things in life that I value, such as the things that make me happy, and how much I appreciate having good friends and family surrounding me.

More specifically, I thought deeply about my family during the reflection. This past year has been one of the hardest for all of us, but overcoming so much adversity ultimately brought us closer and stronger than ever. Although unfortunate that tough times bring people together, I am so grateful and blessed for all I have and for who I have, both past and present.
