In todays world, almost every person we know has some form of social media. Whether it's just for fun using tools such as Instagram and Snapchat, or for more professional reasons, such as LinkedIn, social media is extremely prevalent in society.
Social media has no exact definition. The way I see it is we define the term on our own based on how we use it. Personally, social media is a way for people to form communities and share their thoughts with people in their community. Communities on social media are very important. They bring users together who have similar interests, and ultimately allow more people to connect with each other.
The fitness community on social media has skyrocketed in recent years. In general, fitness, health, and wellness is becoming a popular trend across social media that is influencing the lives of many. Being "fit" is considered to be trendy right now, especially for groups like the millennials. So many young social media users have even created their own personal fitness accounts, likely inspired by the big name fitness accounts that dominate the industry and set the standards for this trend.
Kelsey Wells has been a very influential figure on Instagram in the fitness world, particularly for women. She has 1.6 million followers, and has partnered with other fitness programs and trainers such as Kayla Itsines and the SWEAT program. Kelsey also has her own program called PWR that focuses primarily on weight training.
Kelsey uses her Instagram page to promote her personal brand as well as the other brands she is associated with. Her page consists of entirely health, fitness, and lifestyle posts that many people can relate to or be inspired by. The most popular content on her page are her workouts that she consistently posts. Kelsey perfectly utilizes the ability of posting multiple videos at once to showcase short clips of exercises that people can easily incorporate into their every day workout routines. For example, one workout she posted was a back and bicep lift. She posts a video of each exercise, as well as a description in the caption on what the exercise is called and how many repetitions and sets you should complete for each. These step-by-step posts encourage people to try these workouts on their own, which ultimately influences the fitness brand on social media as a whole.
